Atiku, who waited for hours before Buhari arrived the campaign rally, assured the presidential candidate that he would sweep the votes from North -east and North-west geopolitical regions of the country in the Saturday presidential poll.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters of the party during the North-east zonal rally on Tuesday night at the Ibrahim Babangida Square in Bauchi, the former vice-president said nothing would stop Buhari from replicating the electoral feat which he achieved in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 polls this time around.
Atiku, who spoke in his capacity as the APC leader in the North-east, said support for the APC on Saturday from the two geo-political zones ranked second and third as geo-polical zones with the highest number of registered voters would help see Buhari coasting to victory after the poll.
He expressed concern over the backwardness of the North-east geo-political zone, adding that it was incumbent on the supporters to elect Buhari who has the capacity to redress the multifaceted problems afflicting them.
he said.
“Let me assure Buhari that he doesn’t need to campaign here. This is his home, this is his base. We will repeat the support he got from our electorate in the past three elections that he contested. Our people are suffering; the North-east zone is the most backward in the country. It is the area where our people need to go to schools, they need electricity, they need hospitals and roads. We need Buhari to come and help our suffering masses,”
Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam who alongside other standard bearer of the party vying for governorship and National Assembly seats were presented flags, said he felt like shedding tears on sighting the multitude of jobless youths whose age range from 17 -30 years that sacrifice their time and energy in the scorching Bauchi sun to receive Buhari at the Bauchi airport.
While urging the supporters to vote for all candidates vying for positions on the ticket of the APC, he assured that it takes a selfless leader in the mould of Buhari to address the problems of unemployment and insecurity in the geo-political zone.
Buhari, who expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by the youths, promised that he would work to meet the people’s aspiration as was stated by Atiku.
He said the inability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration to fix the refineries, railway, shipping line, airline and other basic amenities such as schools and hospitals are indicators that it has failed to live up to its responsibility to the citizenry after 16 years in power.
He enjoined supporters not to indulge in acts that could give their opponents opportunity to truncate the election.
he said.
“On election day, don’t be frustrated, to do anything that would give them the excuse to stop the elections. Be organised and calm, vote for those you want and the problems foisted on us by the PDP will be over. God says we should pray to get our problems solved. But you have to match prayers by standing up to do something to get your prayers answered. This is why your votes count. Don’t vote for even a PDP councillor. Sixteen years of PDP is enough,”
